Emergency button

What is an emergency button?

An emergency button is a feature that lets a worker call for immediate help with a single press on the device they carry. The call reaches the control room in real time, along with the location of whoever pressed it, which speeds up incident response and strengthens risk management in industrial operations.

Industry has always had fixed ways to call for help in an emergency: wall-mounted push buttons, area alarms, field telephones. A wearable emergency button changes that because it stays with the person. Wherever the worker is, help is one press away, and the call goes out with the most important information of all: the exact location of the person who needs help.

In practice, the feature mainly protects people who work far from their teams: rounds across large areas, tasks in hard-to-reach places, night shifts. On more advanced devices, the call opens a communication channel with the control room, which confirms receipt and guides the person while help is on the way.

In an emergency, every minute counts. By removing the steps between the incident and the call, the emergency button shortens the time between the event and the response. And because each activation creates auditable evidence of the time, location, and response, the company strengthens its compliance with Brazil’s NR safety standards (NRs) and learns from every incident.

On PHYGITALL’s Smartbadge, the emergency button works inside and outside hazardous areas: it alerts the control room in real time over a private LoRaWAN network, and the people on duty there respond immediately.
